Advert Stone Bay School is seeking volunteer governors for the following roles:
- Local Authority (LA) Governor
- Foundation Governor
- Co-opted Governors (appointed by the full governing board)
- Parent Governor (specifically a parent/carer of a pupil at the school)
Our governors provide vision, ethos, and strategic direction to our school. As a volunteer governor, you will contribute to the school\’s success by:
- Helping to set long-term plans for the school
- Deciding where improvements are needed and how to implement them
- Overseeing the quality of education and ensuring the headteacher improves results
- Examining budgets and spending proposals to ensure value for money and appropriate allocation
No qualifications are required, but key qualities include commitment to children\’s welfare and achievement, a desire to contribute positively, common sense, and willingness to dedicate time. Many functions are statutory or legally defined, and governors need to think strategically, challenge, monitor, and support. Governors often serve on committees or as link governors in areas such as finance, SEND, safeguarding, or as parent governors.
Becoming a governor means joining our school community and applying your strengths and knowledge. Full training is provided, either in person or online, to develop your understanding of the role. The Full Governing Board meets six times per year, usually in the afternoons from 1.00 pm, with meetings lasting 2-4 hours depending on the agenda. Governors commit to a minimum of four years in office.
