WE ARE SEEKING A FULL-TIME RESEARCH TECHNICIAN TO WORK IN DR. JOSEPH BEDONT’S LABORATORY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES.

OUR RESEARCH FOCUSES ON HOW BEHAVIORAL HOMEOSTATS (ESPECIALLY SLEEP) AND CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS INTERACT WITH METABOLISM IN HEALTH AND DISEASE. THE LAB WORKS PRIMARILY IN THE FRUIT FLY AND TO A LESSER EXTENT MOUSE MODEL ORGANISMS, UTILIZING BLENDED GENETIC, BEHAVIORAL, HISTOLOGICAL, AND BIOCHEMICAL TOOLKITS TO INTERROGATE TOPICS OF INTEREST.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • DUTIES WILL INCLUDE FLY PUSHING (ASSESSING GENOTYPE AND MATING STATUS BY PHENOTYPE, CROSSING OF ALLELES, COLLECTION OF EXPERIMENTAL FLIES), PREPARING FLY FOOD FOR EXPERIMENTS, MAINTENANCE OF MICE COLONIES.

A MINIMUM OF A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN BIOLOGY, NEUROSCIENCE, OR A RELATED FIELD. Applicants should be detail-oriented, able to work both as part of a team and independently, and have good time management skills.

PRIOR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE IS DESIRABLE.

Working Schedule: M-F, 8:00-5:00; NON-TRADITIONAL HOURS AS NEEDED; however, hours may vary to meet departmental needs.
