The School of Engineering in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) at Kent State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in Computer Engineering Technology and Cybersecurity Engineering with an expected start date of August 2026. We seek a dynamic educator and industry-engaged professional committed to excellence in teaching, student success, and workforce development. The successful candidate will primarily support the Computer Engineering Technology program while contributing to the Cybersecurity Engineering program and related initiatives within the School of Engineering.

About the School of Engineering: The School of Engineering at Kent State University is part of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, one of the few academic environments in the nation that intentionally integrates engineering, engineering technology, and aeronautics within a single college. This distinctive structure creates a highly collaborative ecosystem that supports both theoretical and applied approaches to engineering education, innovation, and workforce development. The School offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs spanning aerospace engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity engineering, industrial and systems engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, and multiple engineering technology disciplines. Students benefit from a hands-on, laboratory-intensive learning environment supported by strong industry partnerships and modern instructional and research facilities.

Kent State University’s Computer Engineering Technology program is designated by the National Security Agency as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), reflecting the program’s commitment to preparing graduates for careers in networking, computing systems, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure protection. Faculty and students have access to state-of-the-art and state-of-industry laboratories, including dedicated networking laboratories, server administration laboratories, a cybersecurity range, computing laboratories, and recently expanded instructional and research facilities. These resources support experiential learning and provide students with practical skills that prepare them for immediate success in industry, government, and advanced technology organizations.

Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in areas such as computer hardware, networking, server administration and configuration, information technology security, cybersecurity fundamentals, wireless and network security, programming, and related topics.
  • Contribute to instruction within the Cybersecurity Engineering program based on expertise and program needs.
  • Support hands-on, experiential learning through the effective use of networking laboratories, server laboratories, cybersecurity range environments, and other instructional facilities.
  • Mentor students and contribute to student success, career preparation, and professional development.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Contribute service to the School, College, University, and profession through committee participation, outreach, recruitment, and engagement with industry partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Computer hardware and computer systems, Networking and network administration, Server administration and configuration, Information technology infrastructure, Cybersecurity and information assurance, Wireless and network security.
  • Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and student engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience and/or demonstrated collaboration with industry in networking, systems administration, cybersecurity, information technology, computing systems, or related technical fields.
  • Professional certifications such as Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, ISC², EC-Council, or similar credentials.
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience teaching laboratory-based courses in networking, cybersecurity, computing systems, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with cybersecurity range environments, networking laboratories, or other hands-on instructional platforms.
  • Ability to contribute to instruction within the Cybersecurity Engineering program.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
