Salary:
Basic Function: To provide leadership for the intercollegiate softball program; to administer and promote the program within the university mission. Reports to Athletic Director.
Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership for the softball team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student athletes' skills and teamwork; analyze team performance and adjust strategies as needed.
- Oversee recruitment of student athletes.
- Develop policies and procedures for student athletes and coaches.
- Administer program budget, analyze funding needs, and plan fundraising activities to subsidise athletic program.
- Develop strategies to foster athletic and academic progress of student athletes; counsel and advise student athletes with personal or academic problems.
- May perform marketing or public relations duties to promote the program.
- Leadership of a small department, unit, or major function and/or direct supervision over administrative/professional employees.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in relevant field; four years progressively responsible experience in coaching softball.
License/Certification:
Knowledge Of: National Collegiate Athletics Association and Mid-American Conference rules and regulations.
Skill In: Public relations, training or instructing student athletes, interpersonal communication.
Ability To: Manage a budget and raise funds, analyse situations and develop solutions, travel, work non-traditional hours, provide leadership and direction.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building and off-campus frequently.
