Kent is looking for a Lead Safety Engineer who will be responsible for coordinating the production of engineering deliverables and providing progress reporting for a project in accordance with the project plan.

Deliverables:

  • Lead safety engineering technical activities across assigned FEED and Detail Design project.
  • Prepare the Process Safety TDR and execute allocated tasks within the requirements of the project execution plan and TDR.
  • Prepare monthly/weekly progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Kent's ISO accredited QMS, and project specific procedures, guides and standards.
  • Prepare and provide expert guidance on process safety, fire safety, and risk management to other engineering disciplines.
  • Be accountable for the quality of Process Safety deliverables.
  • Review inter-discipline engineering (IDC) documents.
  • Ensure that design meets all Process Safety requirements and maintains risks to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Able to achieve project completion to the project specifications on schedule.
  • Facilitate and participate in project HAZID, HAZOP, SIL studies, and other safety workshops as required, along with experience in coordinating HAZOP, HAZID, SIL classification studies, and other HSE workshops.
  • Able to prepare and review safety studies reports such as FERA, QRA, ESSA, RAM etc.
  • Able to review 3rd party HSE studies such as QRA, FERA, EERA, etc., as required.
  • Able to do safety studies calculations using PHAST, Flaresim, FRED etc as required.
  • Experience in fire protection and engineering design, including the review and preparation of Fire Water P&IDs, Fire Water demand calculations, passive fire protection studies and drawings, as well as the preparation of fire and gas detection layouts, safety equipment layouts, and safety signage, among others.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of Technical Safety engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start-up.
  • Typically holds a Master’s Degree in chemical engineering or post-graduate Process Safety qualification. Chartered status preferred.
  • Experience of working for engineering/client organisations in the oil and gas and new energy industry.
  • Experience in Windpower, Hydrogen, waste to energy, CCUS etc.
  • Exposure to consultancy, FEED / detailed design and EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes.
  • Experience of managing Risk Analysis (e.g. QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, RAM, Flare/Vent Studies).
  • Hands-on experience of running process safety software such as PHAST, Flaresim, RAM Maros etc.
  • Human Factors engineering design implementation experience.
  • Experience of UK safety case and COMAH requirements.
