Kent is looking for a Senior Safety Engineer who will coordinate the production of engineering deliverables and provide progress reporting for a project in accordance with the project plan. Typically, the role is as a Process Safety engineer reporting to the lead engineer on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC projects. The engineer may supervise and check the work of other engineers as delegated by the lead engineer or group manager and will communicate technical or project issues potentially impacting the project to the lead engineer. We follow a hybrid working model with four days per week in the Woking office to support team development within Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Be technically responsible for an area of work and supervise preparation of specific deliverables.
- Supervise and check the work of other engineers as delegated by the lead engineer or group manager.
- Undertake specific tasks/areas of work as defined by the lead/principal engineer for Process Safety.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from the original proposal/contract under supervision of the lead/principal engineer.
- Participate in factory acceptance tests.
- Support the preparation of the Process Safety TDR and execute allocated tasks per the project execution plan and TDR.
- Ensure compliance with Kent's ISO-accredited QMS and project-specific procedures, guides and standards.
- With the Process group manager, identify own development needs and ensure development goals are met, considering project commitments.
- Be responsible for personal training and development in consultation with the Process group manager.
- Perform related duties as instructed by the lead/principal engineer or group manager.
- Prepare/review safety studies independently (e.g., QRA, FERA, RAM).
- Prepare and review loss prevention deliverables such as fire protection philosophy, HAC schedule, PFP schedule layouts, and fire water demand calculations.
- In addition, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management.
Qualifications
- Typically holds a Master’s Degree in chemical engineering or post-graduate Process Safety qualification. Chartered status preferred.
- Experience in the oil and gas engineering/client environment.
- Exposure to consultancy, FEED/detailed design and EPC projects.
- Knowledge of international and industry standards and codes; safety and quality procedures and best practice.
- Experience managing Risk Analysis (e.g., QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, RAM, Flare/Vent Studies).
- Hands-on experience with process safety software (PHAST, Flaresim, RAM Maros, etc.).
- Human Factors engineering design implementation experience.
- Experience with UK safety case and COMAH requirements and UK HSE regulations.
- Experience in development of Bow Tie and identification of Safety Critical Elements.
- Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
