As Painter/Decorator, you will provide and maintain a flexible, dedicated and comprehensive painting and decoration service to all departments across a varied Estate. This will be a planned (but flexible) approach, covering over 5000 rooms. You will ensure a clean and safe working environment through the delivery of a quality service with minimal disruption to day‑to‑day clinical provisions and maintain a patient‑focused service across clinical and non‑clinical areas. You will have a first‑rate knowledge of all aspects of decoration, in particular, paper hanging, painting and paint systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepare work areas and perform first‑class workmanship with minimal disruption to clinical teams.
- Keep workspace tidy and secure, including access to tools, materials (incl. COSHH) and access equipment.
- Complete dynamic risk assessments of the environment.
- Deal appropriately with patients, staff and the general public.
- Work without direct supervision.
- Have a flexible approach to duties.
- Travel across the Kent and Medway area.
- Work at heights, from ladders, in confined spaces and live patient environments.
- Recognise minor building defects that would impede the paint programme and bring them to the attention of the Estates Manager.
- Willing to undertake new or unfamiliar decorative finishes and attend training to support development of products and methods.
- Quantify the amounts of materials required for each area when necessary.
- Fit ceramic wall tiles, carpet tiles, curtain tracks and blinds.
Qualifications
- NVQ level 3 or above in decorating or tradesperson, or substantial demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of a tradesperson’s basic duties from accredited training courses.
- Previous painting, decorating and handyperson experience.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective partnership working at all levels.
- Full clean driving licence essential.
- Post holder must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business purposes (unless a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
