As a Practice Nurse you should ideally be qualified in chronic disease management to include: asthma, diabetes, cervical cytology, wound care, along with general treatment room duties. The Practice supports professional development to ensure a full skills mix of treatments can be provided to our patients.

The candidate will have experience in working in General Practice, face to face and telephone consultations; this would be desirable, but not essential. Essential to have excellent computer, patient/people skills along with an eye for detail and be prepared to be flexible being a key member of the clinical team influencing and developing the role.

This role requires a well presented individual with a calm, methodical approach to work, the ability to deal empathically and professionally with the general public. A working knowledge of EMIS Web would be desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided.

Health and Safety and Infection Control protocols are followed including carrying out weekly/monthly/annual audits, and if any issues are raised, they are acted upon. Medical equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. To oversee the ordering of stock and carrying out of inventories, to ensure cost effective use of resources, taking into account budget control.

Safe management of Sharps Procedure, Waste Management, Decontamination Control Procedures and Spillage Control procedures. Actively identify, report and correct health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately. Develop and maintain own competence in basic and advanced clinical skills, identify and action new advances in nursing care.

Attend and participate in any meetings arranged by the practice when required. Support other members of the nursing team with any training needs and development. Participate in quality improvement and innovations e.g. audit, significant event analysis and development of protocols and new services.

Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as defined by the practice. Participate in an annual individual performance review maintaining a record of own personal and professional development including the requirements of NMC revalidation.
