Responsibilities
- View and process physician orders in the electronic medical record, transcribe orders when needed, especially during downtime, and maintain accurate medical records for all patients in the assigned unit. Follow up to obtain missing information.
- Maintain inventory of necessary forms and supplies, ensure a safe and clean working environment, and manage form updates and storage.
- Greet visitors, screen calls, assist patients and visitors, process mail, relay information, and schedule appointments as directed.
- Prepare medical records upon patient discharge, copy records, and handle transfers/discharges.
- Maintain patient census records manually and electronically.
- Assist in accessing or retrieving reports as requested.
- File documents and maintain organized medical records.
- Participate in daily discharge rounds and keep relevant logs and reports.
- Assist with floating to fill in for open secretary areas as needed.
- Print lab slips during downtime procedures.
- Order, track, and file equipment paperwork.
- Orient new staff to the role of unit secretary.
- Communicate pertinent patient care and general information to nursing staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School diploma and at least one year of related experience or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
