Primary Function: Responsible for providing non-nursing patient support services, including transporting patients, laboratory specimens, and equipment, morgue runs, errands, deliveries, and maintaining a safe and suitable work environment for all patients.
Responsibilities:
- Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed within the hospital. Assist nursing and other clinical personnel with patient transfers to/from transportation equipment. Assist patients into and out of vehicles during discharges or transports. Place equipment in vehicles as needed. Transport deceased patients to the hospital morgue, ensuring corridors are clear of obstructions.
- Deliver laboratory specimens, x-rays, lab reports, telephone requests, stock requisitions, patient belongings, and reports to support nursing units.
- Demonstrate high levels of patient engagement by communicating effectively during transport, informing patients about tests being performed, and engaging them about their hospital stay.
- Move wheeled equipment such as hospital beds, carts, and supplies as instructed. Transport medical equipment for patient discharges. Clean and maintain all transport and medical equipment, keeping areas organized and safe. Report any broken equipment or maintenance needs.
- Assist in training new employees on day-to-day procedures, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
- Assist hospitality associates with cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms if required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
