Being an Equipment Manager involves helping us improve the management of our operational equipment. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Operational Expenditure budget working with other budget managers to accurately record, categorise and plan the use of resources across both the Fleet and Equipment Services (FES) team, and the closely related Operational Services team. This is an integral part of our vehicle and equipment replacement programme (VERP), and the post holder will be expected to regularly present updates and planning assumptions to the VERP board.
Working closely with the Operational Asset Manager and Administrator, the role will also entail work on business-as-usual planning and implementation for the Ops Equipment Asset Management System, using the system to manage existing asset renewal and replacement. You will know that the work you do has a significant contribution to keeping Kent and Medway safe.
What you’ll do:
- Understand the equipment profile of the Service and plan the budget for replacement of equipment.
- Responsible for liaising with colleagues to feed accurate servicing and maintenance requirements of new equipment to FES.
- Responsibility for working with colleagues in FES to plan asset tagging for new and replacement items of equipment.
- Plan and deliver a process for producing equipment manuals and standard test procedures for new equipment.
- Work with FES to develop information stored within the Operational Equipment Asset Management System to inform future decision making on servicing and replacement.
- Deliver plans and information to colleagues in Fire Control, Data Intelligence and Technical Training & Professionalism on new and replacement equipment, including implementation programmes, delivery dates and assisting with the transition to replacement capabilities.
- Project work in relation to equipment budgets to re-align budgets and expenditure into meaningful and useful information to support the Service understanding of costs and future risks in relation to financial trends and issues.
- Provide guidance to other colleagues on appropriate attribution of costs to budgets eliminating waste created by rework of incorrect charges.
