Location: Service Headquarters, Tovil, Maidstone, ME15 6XB with the requirement to travel across Kent and Medway

Hours: Full Time – 37 Hours per Week, Monday to Friday (08:00 – 16:00)

Being a Maintenance Technician at KFRS:

KFRS has locations across the whole of Kent and Medway. The estate consists of over 80 properties, including 56 fire stations. The Property Services team is responsible for managing the estate. We’re an in-house professional team, skilled in all aspects of Facilities Management and building maintenance.

As a multi-skilled maintenance Technician, you’ll support the Helpdesk by carrying out planned preventative maintenance, repairs and minor refurbishment works to KFRS buildings and furnishings to include general building, carpentry, flooring, painting, tiling, plumbing, and lock repairs in the most cost-effective way. You’ll be experienced in working within the day-to-day operations of a facilities team and ensuring a high standard of customer service to all colleagues. Company van and tools are provided. You will commute to Headquarters daily, pick up the van, tasks and tools, equipment for the day, returning at the end of the working day.

What you’ll do:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and emergency works as required by the Property Services Management team.
  • Maintain the continuity of services as required.
  • Carry out repairs and refurbishment work to KFRS buildings and furnishings.
  • Act as first response to defect reports, carry out triage of works, and assess complexity of work and parts required.
  • Arrange and prioritise workload, specify and order parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner.
  • Work with Property Services colleagues and other teams including IT and operational colleagues to complete multi-discipline tasks.
  • Carry out weekly statutory tests as required including fire alarm testing/water flushing/generator checks.
  • Understand the workings of buildings and systems throughout the Kent Fire and Rescue Services estate.
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to their trade without supervision.
  • Use complex building equipment and machinery as required in accordance with all legislative guidance and training.
  • Keep up to date with current legislation, working safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience within a similar role, either within a Property Services/Estates Team, for a company or as a Contractor.
  • A qualification in a construction-based trade, preferably plumbing or electrical.
  • A good working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation in the workplace.
  • You’ll be highly self-motivated, proactive, and positive, willing to learn and develop your skills.
  • Skills to manage customer relationships and manage expectations.
  • A team player mind-set and can-do approach.
  • A current, clean driving licence.
