Location: Will work at both workshop locations: Ashford Fire Station – Henwood, Ashford TN24 8 and Maidstone Fire Station – Loose Rd, Maidstone ME15 9TX

Hours: Full Time – 37 Hours per Week (0800-1600 Monday to Thursday, 0800-1530 Fridays)

Pension: Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – career average pension scheme with 16.5% employer contribution

Holidays: In addition to bank/public holidays you will receive 30 days holiday

Base Salary: £37,478 – £42,104 per annum depending on experience + £500 Tool Allowance

Come and work in an HGV/LGV environment that is different from the norm. Being a Technician in Fleet you will be essential to keeping our vehicles operational to enable it to respond to incidents across the County. Our fleet is specialist in design, and you will be expected to be able to service and maintain vehicles and equipment to the highest of industry standards. You will know that the work you do has a significant contribution to keeping Kent and Medway safe. Even if you are not yet HGV qualified, if you have a Level 3 vehicle service and maintenance qualification, we can support you to get to the HGV experience towards IRTEC. This is an exciting time to be joining the Fleet Department at Kent Fire and Rescue with new vehicles and facilities planned.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure the operational effectiveness of all vehicles and equipment ensuring manufacturers recommendations for maintenance and repair and KFRS’ requirements are met.
  • Complete and maintain relevant documents and electronic systems to include inspection records, details of repairs and parts required to work carried out.
  • Work with Fleet and Equipment Services to meet departmental needs and objectives and KFRS’ operational requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • Accredited IMI (or equivalent) Master Technician or demonstrate the capability to achieve and maintain that standard through formal assessment.
  • IRTEC Certificate (where relevant)
  • Must hold a current UK manual driving licence. Large Goods Vehicle (LGV C1/HGV) would be preferable
  • Experience (or ability to acquire quickly), of exigencies of fire service vehicle use.
  • Ideally experience of manufacturer training in Volvo/Scania/Mercedes/Iveco.
  • Accredited level 4 in diagnosis, testing and repair of ICE / hybrid / electric vehicles and components, or demonstrate capability to achieve and maintain that standard through formal assessment for our future fleet.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a complex, multi-demand fleet technician environment.
