Public Health Trainer - Making Every Contact Count (MECC)
Role Responsibility
The Public Health Team are looking for an individual to join our team who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing and who can support the delivery of our county-wide Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training programme. The post will initially be fixed term for one year from the start date as a pilot.
The Public Health Team delivers a range of training and workforce development programmes that support professionals and volunteers to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across the county. MECC training equips people with the skills, confidence and knowledge to use everyday conversations as opportunities to support positive behaviour change. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting and embedding the MECC approach across a wide range of organisations and communities.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled officer who will be responsible for coordinating, promoting, and delivering MECC training, developing and maintaining stakeholder networks, supporting the recruitment of training participants, and monitoring the impact of training activity. Working closely with the Public Health Principal for Workforce Development and Training and the wider Public Health Team, this role will support the ongoing development of MECC across the county and contribute to improving population health and reducing health inequalities.
This role requires excellent relationship-building and facilitation skills, strong organisational abilities, confidence in delivering training to diverse audiences, effective data management skills, and a genuine passion for improving local health and wellbeing.
The post holder will need to have broad knowledge and skills in:
- Planning, coordinating and delivering training programmes and learning events.
- Understanding behaviour change approaches and health improvement principles, including the Making Every Contact Count methodology.
- Building and maintaining effective partnerships with a range of stakeholders across health, social care, voluntary and community sectors.
- Political awareness, diplomacy and sensitivity when working with partner organisations.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage audiences at all levels.
- Ability to collect, analyse and interpret training data to evaluate impact and support continuous improvement.
- Commitment to reducing health inequalities and improving population health outcomes through prevention and early intervention.
