This is a rare opportunity to play an important role in one of the most complex and high-profile public sector transformation programmes in the country. The Kent & Medway Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) Programme is delivering fundamental change to how local government is designed and delivered across the region. We are now looking for experienced Programme and Project Managers to support this journey, ensuring services remain safe, resilient and ready for the future. If you thrive at pace, enjoy working across organisational boundaries, and want to make a lasting difference for our residents, this role could be for you.

About the role: Working as part of the Kent & Medway LGR Programme team and reporting to a Senior Programme Manager, you will manage defined projects and workstreams that support the design, transition and implementation of new local government arrangements. You will be responsible for day-to-day delivery activity, ensuring milestones, outputs and benefits are achieved in line with statutory requirements, government guidance and programme governance. A key part of the role is bridging policy and delivery, helping turn national policy, local decisions and programme principles into practical, deliverable projects that support readiness for transition and vesting day. As an existing employee of a Kent or Medway council, you will be expected to work impartially on behalf of all 14 councils and the future council(s), setting aside organisational allegiances to support the programme as a whole.

What you'll bring to the team: You’ll be an organised, delivery-focused project professional who is comfortable working in complex, fast-moving public sector environments. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience delivering projects within local government or the wider public sector
  • Confidence working within formal governance, reporting and assurance frameworks
  • Strong planning, coordination and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to analyse information and present it clearly for different audiences
  • Clear, confident communication and strong attention to detail
  • An ability to remain calm, flexible and effective during periods of change and uncertainty
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work across organisational boundaries

Why join the Kent & Medway LGR Programme? Be at the heart of once-in-a-generation public sector change. Work with talented colleagues from across Kent & Medway in a genuinely collaborative environment. Gain exposure to senior decision-making and complex system leadership. Develop your career through a highly visible, strategically important role. Make a real difference to how services are delivered to residents for years to come.

Our shared Kent and Medway values: We are one team, working openly and collaboratively across Kent & Medway. We are caring, respectful and people-centred, open and accountable, curious and ambitious, and proud of the difference we are making together.
