We are recruiting SEN Inclusion Advisers (SEN IA) to join our countywide team. The role is full time permanent with possibility of some part‑time opportunities and is all year, not term time.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to schools to identify children and young people with SEND early, ensuring they have the right support at the right time and that they successfully transition between phases of their education.
- Support the development of whole school inclusion, embedding mainstream core standards and provision planning for children and young people with SEND.
- Work collaboratively with local teams within KCC and other relevant services, including Early Years, Specialist Teaching and Learning Service (STLS), Kent PRU Inclusion and Attendance Service (KPAS), Kent Educational Psychology Service (KEPS), as well as SEND Assessment, Placement, Tribunal and EHCP Casework teams.
- Advise and support the development of Inclusion within a Community of Schools.
- Maintain county‑wide knowledge of the SEND landscape, consulting with schools across Kent and neighbouring authorities.
- Ensure children and young people with SEND attend their local mainstream school/college where possible, reducing the need for an Education Health and Care (EHC) Plan.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Successful completion of the National Award for SEN Coordination or an equivalent post‑graduate qualification in SEN.
- Considerable experience of working with a number of schools, strategically and successfully developing their whole‑school SEND provision.
- Demonstrable ability to meet the above requirements.
Other Requirements
- Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Customer‑facing position requiring a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for effective performance, as required by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
Employment Details
The successful candidates will be based at their nearest KCC office (Worrall House, Kroner House, or Brook House), with an expectation to work in schools and remotely as required.
