Would you like to make a positive difference to families in Kent? If so, we would like to hear from you! Our successful Family Learning Team is part of Kent Adult Education in Community Learning and Skills. We deliver a range of fun and exciting courses to families in the community; our high quality curriculum and experienced, dedicated team members change the aspirations and outcomes for adults and children alike. Families have fun learning together and, following our classes, many adults progress to further learning and employment.

We are recruiting a Family Learning Tutor on a permanent 0.5FTE contract, to deliver a range of Family Learning courses including: Family English, Maths and Language (ESOL) courses in the Dartford, Gravesend and Sevenoaks areas. Our aim is to support parents and carers to engage in learning, improve their life chances and to enjoy family life with their children. Family Learning is a provision designed for parents and carers with basic skills needs, and includes programmes for families where English is not the primary language at home. Our programme also includes personal development, parenting, basic cookery, family first aid and creative courses with embedded English and maths. The successful candidate will be willing to teach a broad range of courses both face to face and online.

The role of a Family Learning tutor is interesting, enjoyable and above all, hugely rewarding. To join our successful, supportive and dedicated team you will need to show that you:

  • Hold relevant teaching and subject qualifications.
  • Have experience of working with families in the community.
  • Are motivated to make learning fun, enjoyable and inspirational.
  • Are willing to complete standardised paperwork.
  • Are able to deliver at Entry Level to Level 2 across a range of programmes to exam.
  • Are flexible to teach various hours during the week including evenings and in school holidays (and the very occasional Saturday by prior agreement).
  • Are able to drive as driving is required to meet the provision, delivery and quality requirements for this role.

English and maths skills are required (Level 2 or GCSE Grade C/4) to underpin all delivery, as programmes are mapped to the Adult Core Curriculum and can progress to Functional Skills and Trinity ESOL qualifications. Knowledge of the Primary Curriculum is also required. You will work in a range of primary schools, Family Hubs, community-based venues and online from home. Courses range from one week to four terms, usually delivered in two-and-a-half hourly sessions per week. You will be paid for preparation as well as teaching time on a ratio of 1:1 and be expected to attend three tutor meetings per year and actively engage with CPD.
