Overview
The Children in Care Team is large and dynamic, and Social Work Assistants within the Family Time Service play a vital role in delivering services to vulnerable children and their families.
The primary requirement is to facilitate and supervise family time between children in care and their families, ensuring the best experience for the children while supporting parents as necessary.
You may assist with transport arrangements to support the care plan and must accurately document sessions to assist Social Workers with assessments and informing care plans.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and supervise family time between children in care and their families, ensuring quality experiences and appropriate support for parents.
- Document sessions accurately for use by Social Workers in assessments and care planning.
- Assist the Family Time Coordinator in administrative tasks, including scheduling future sessions and ensuring paperwork is received; provide cover when necessary (e. g., during annual leave).
- Produce good reports and case notes, collate information, and liaise with social workers and other professionals to inform complex case conferences and court work.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with families, foster carers, and other professionals; work within a team of family time supervisors across South Kent and receive supervision from Family Time Coordinators.
- Be mobile across a wide operational area, including travel around Kent and beyond, with occasional wide geographical travel and flexibility to work at various times; note that public transport may be limited in some rural areas.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Full UK Driving Licence (the Council is committed to reasonable adjustments; applications will be considered if driving is not possible due to a disability).
- Mobility to travel across a wide geographical area, including around the county of Kent and beyond.
- Ability to produce clear reports and case notes and to liaise with social workers and professionals.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance as part of the recruitment process.
- Customer-facing position with a requirement to command spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements, as per the Immigration Act (2016) Part 7 standards.
- Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (availability at these times is required; day may finish at various venues in Kent).
