Essential Functions and Qualifications:

  • State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (required), SM (preferred), SE, SA, or SV endorsement
  • Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Familiarity with a variety of interventions including the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI), Orton-Gillingham, Heggerty, Touch Math, etc.
  • Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
  • Ability to teach social strategies to students to facilitate success in general education
  • Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
  • Knowledge in instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs across multiple grade levels
  • Knowledge of and ability to accurately complete IEPs, present level statements, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives
  • Successful classroom management strategies and skills
  • Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
  • Belief that all children can learn and an understanding of differences in students
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
