About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and academically driven Associate Professor in Project Controls to join our growing team. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching, research, and professional practice, and who are committed to developing the next generation of project control professionals. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching, mentoring apprentices, and contributing to the College’s research output and academic reputation. This is a practice‑led academic role, combining structured teaching with coaching, industry engagement, and research publication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Learning Delivery
    • Deliver approximately 6–8 hours of teaching per week in project controls and related disciplines
    • Facilitate engaging and interactive classroom sessions aligned with apprenticeship standards and professional bodies
    • Deliver structured lessons covering topics such as cost control, scheduling, risk management, and earned value management
  • Coaching, Mentoring and Learner Support
    • Provide coaching and mentoring support to a caseload of approximately 55 learners
    • Conduct regular one‑to‑one progress reviews and support learners in achieving their academic and professional goals
    • Support learners in preparing for End Point Assessment (EPA) and professional certifications
  • Curriculum Development and Academic Content
    • Develop and continuously improve teaching materials, including lesson plans, case studies, and assessments
    • Ensure content reflects current industry practice and aligns with professional standards such as: Project Management Institute, APMG International, AXELOS
  • Research and Publication
    • Actively contribute to academic research and publishing in recognised journals such as: International Journal of Project Management, Project Management Journal
    • Produce high‑quality publications that enhance the College’s academic profile
    • Contribute to the development of textbooks, professional handbooks, and learning resources
  • Administration and Academic Duties
    • Maintain accurate learner records and compliance documentation
    • Participate in internal meetings, quality assurance processes, and Ofsted‑related activities
    • Support induction sessions and learner onboarding

Typical Working Day (Indicative Structure)

A typical working day will include:

  • 2 hours – Teaching / classroom delivery
  • 2 hours – Preparation and material development
  • 3 hours – Coaching, mentoring, inductions, and learner support
  • 1 hour – Administration, research, and academic publishing
