An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professionally registered experienced Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, or Counselling Psychologist to join the Therapeutic community team delivering specialist treatment for adults with complex emotional difficulties. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting therapeutic groups for individuals with severe and complex emotional needs, and may have worked within or have lived experience of a therapeutic community, or have used trauma-focused therapy group models.

The Brenchley Unit is an established therapeutic community, accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and recognized for excellence in mental health practice. The service actively engages in peer reviews, conferences, and continues to develop its therapeutic practices, including MBT, Yoga for trauma, psychodrama, art psychotherapy, and occupational therapy.

Main duties of the job:

  • The role involves advising on referrals, providing supervision and case consultations, and offering assessment and outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups.
  • You will conduct small group psychotherapy within the TC and participate in community meetings.
  • There will be opportunities for co-produced lecturing and training.
  • You should be committed to an analytic framework within a democratic therapeutic community, uphold relational practice values including co-production and inclusivity, and be capable of managing transference processes.
  • The role requires reflection on complex team and community dynamics, managing caseloads with clients who may present with significant risk, and supporting the clinical lead as needed.
