Overview

This is an exciting opportunity, available from February 2026, for a Specialty Doctor to join the team on the new Female PICU Ward (opening in April 2026), based at Littlestone Lodge, Dartford, Kent, DA2 6PB.

The post will be based on the inpatient female PICU ward of Littlestone Lodge. It is a 10 bedded inpatient unit located next to Littlebrook Hospital, which has four general adult inpatient wards, including a male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. The wards are Amberwood, Cherrywood, Pinewood and Willow Suite Male PICU. The female PICU ward will work closely with the male PICU ward to share learning, good practices and governance.

The post holder will work with a Consultant Psychiatrist and other members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to deliver quality care to patients on the ward. The post holder will not have responsibility for community work except for Mental Health Assessment out of hours but will be expected to work collaboratively with the community mental health teams.

Job responsibilities

  1. To provide psychiatric care to patients admitted to the Female PICU ward
  2. To provide medical input to the Multidisciplinary Team on the ward.
  3. To support the RC in attending the Acute Pathway Meetings all new admission are assessed by a senior doctor and have management plans in place within 24hrs of admission. The post holder has medical responsibility for inpatients on wards for which they are consultant.
  4. The post holder is expected to seek the views of families and carers when practicable while making decisions about patients care and discharge.

Essential

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme
  • Good knowledge in specialty
