This is an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Worker to join our experienced multi-disciplinary team at the Newhaven Lodge (Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit). Newhaven Lodge is comprised of 8 single bedrooms offering 24-hour care, 7 days a week, for individuals with complex mental health needs. It is situated in Gillingham at Medway Maritime Hospital and is one of 6 Rehabilitation Units across Kent, providing inpatient Recovery and Rehabilitation.
Under the guidance and supervision of the team, you will deliver effective and competent care to adults with mental health rehabilitation needs, both in the Unit and the local community. Your responsibilities will include assisting patients in their daily activities, supporting skill development towards independence, and aiding their recovery. The role involves shift work covering 24 hours, including days and occasional nights.
This position is suitable for non-registered support staff with prior experience working with adults with mental health difficulties. You will support registered staff in conducting mental health needs assessments and interventions with individuals, carers, and groups. Promoting patient self-care and supporting activities of daily living according to the care plan are key aspects of your role.
You should be confident and competent in working with individuals in an inpatient rehabilitation setting, both in the community and within a multidisciplinary team. Good communication skills, flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach are essential. You will work with a defined caseload of clients with rehabilitation needs related to mental health issues, using specific approaches directed by clinicians, in a recovery-focused and socially inclusive manner.
Healthcare Workers are vital members of the multidisciplinary team and will have ongoing responsibilities such as:
- Establishing therapeutic relationships with service users and their relatives/carers.
- Supporting risk assessments and management plans in line with policies.
- Assisting in assessments to help form accurate diagnoses and care plans.
- Involving individuals in activity planning and prioritization.
- Collaborating with service users, staff, and relatives to deliver interventions aimed at maximizing engagement and independence while balancing risk.
- Supporting the identification of relapse indicators and alerting staff to changes in mental state.
- Monitoring rehabilitation progress and providing feedback to the team.
- Assisting in identifying additional care needs or referrals to other agencies.
- Supporting the assessment of new referrals to the rehabilitation service.
- Managing your delegated workload daily.
