Overall Purpose of The Job
Are you a proactive, solution-focused Solicitor looking to expand your legal career within a dynamic and varied environment? Join our Legal Team at Kensington Mortgages, where no two days are the same. We are looking for an In-House Solicitor to provide high quality legal advice across the business on a range of matters, including mortgage originations, servicing, FCA regulation, litigation, AML Legislation, fraud, data protection, property, contracts and more.
The department has a very varied workload, offering the opportunity for candidates with a range of previous experience to contribute and to diversify their skills and knowledge, whilst collaborating with our colleagues in the legal department of our parent company, Barclays.
Key Accountabilities
- Delivering timely, practical legal advice to the business
- Managing a range of caseloads including disputes, litigation conducted by external solicitors
- Drafting and negotiating contracts, legal documentation and business policies
- Providing legal guidance on individual cases/mortgage applications, standard business documentation, policy, procedures and risk management
- Supporting the business in its compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, providing advice and guidance on current and forthcoming changes in legislation, regulation and codes of practice
- Building strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders
- Ensuring the Company and other lenders on whose behalf it administers mortgage accounts are adequately protected in disputes and contractual relationships with customers and third parties
- Contributing legal advice to specific projects within Kensington and Barclays
- Acting with integrity at all times and embracing the philosophy of treating our customers fairly and promoting fair customer outcomes
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills
- Qualified solicitor admitted to practice in England and Wales with at least 1-4 years post-qualification experience
- Strong experience in financial services particularly mortgage lending or mortgage litigation (acting for lender is a plus)
- Knowledge of residential conveyancing and land registration processes is an advantage
- Contract drafting/negotiating skills
- Confident communicator with strong analytical and legal skills
- Team player with a can-do attitude and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
