Kenneth Brian Associates are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a successful and growing business based in Mitcham, who are looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller. This role would suit someone who enjoys working within an SME, is commercially minded and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
The Role
- Responsible for the day to day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and providing valuable commercial insight to the wider business.
- Producing accurate monthly management accounts across multiple companies.
- Managing the month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Preparing consolidated financial information and managing intercompany accounting.
- Leading budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.
- Monitoring working capital, including credit control, debtor performance and supplier payments.
- Managing payroll and overseeing day-to-day treasury activities.
- Ensuring compliance with VAT, CIS, HMRC and Companies House requirements.
- Acting as the main contact for year-end accounts and external auditors.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and reporting.
- Managing and developing a small finance team.
- Supporting senior management with financial analysis and commercial decision making.
About You
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant within a multi-company environment.
- Experience within the construction, engineering or building services sector.
- Strong knowledge of group accounting, intercompany reconciliations and consolidations.
- Practical experience using Xero.
- A good understanding of CIS, project accounting, work in progress and job costing.
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification ideally but part-qualified or qualified by experience also considered.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring finance staff.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across the business.
