4 days per week in the office.
Job Purpose
Working within the Financial Reporting and Control team, this role is responsible for fulfilling the organisation’s financial and tax reporting obligations. Key areas of responsibility include:
- Preparing monthly group financial returns.
- Producing statutory financial statements for several UK-based entities.
- Preparing and submitting corporation tax, VAT, and other tax filings.
- Completing IFRS-based regulatory submissions to the relevant UK authorities.
- Supporting additional financial and regulatory reporting requirements as needed.
The role also involves ownership of technical accounting matters and maintaining a strong governance framework over the financial reporting process, including balance sheet substantiation. As the organisation undergoes a significant change programme, the postholder will collaborate with a range of stakeholders to provide technical accounting expertise and ensure reporting processes remain compliant and resilient.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Group / Head Office Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packs and related submissions.
- Produce regular reports for group consolidation, including related party, capital expenditure, and tax analyses.
- Liaise with group finance teams to address reporting queries and ensure consistency.
- Prepare annual statutory accounts for UK entities, including supporting disclosure notes.
- Produce quarterly IFRS-based regulatory returns.
- Provide support on other financial reporting issues as required.
- Technical Accounting
- Draft technical accounting papers on key judgements and policy issues for senior management and governance committees.
- Assess the impact of new accounting standards and regulatory developments.
- Collaborate with Risk on hedge accounting and IFRS 9-related matters.
- Lead the monthly Technical Working Group meetings.
- Evaluate and document the adequacy of expected credit loss (ECL) provisions.
- Taxation
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns under partial exemption methodology.
- Manage quarterly corporation tax instalments and monthly tax provisions.
- Support the annual corporation tax return process.
- Prepare regulatory tax-related filings and assist with senior accounting officer (SAO) certification.
- Provide assistance with other tax compliance and advisory matters.
- Regulatory Reporting
- Prepare and submit statistical and prudential returns to UK regulators as required.
- Controls & Process Improvement
- Support daily and monthly financial controls, including reconciliations and suspense account monitoring.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in the control environment and financial reporting processes.
- Support the finance change programme by assessing the impact of new systems and process changes.
- Maintain and update documentation and procedures for reporting processes.
- Undertake ad-hoc analysis and tasks as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA).
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and proven practical application.
- Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, data manipulation, and automation).
- Experience in the financial services sector preferred.
