Our client is an established, profitable fintech with an in-house engineering function responsible for building the platforms that power its payments and foreign exchange business. As part of its next phase of growth, the business is investing heavily in AI to transform the way software is designed, built and delivered. You'll work closely with senior leadership to define engineering standards, introduce AI-first development practices and help shape the future architecture of the business. You'll remain actively involved in coding, architecture, technical decision-making and mentoring whilst helping build a high-performing engineering function. Responsibilities Lead and mentor a small software engineering team. Drive adoption of AI-assisted software development across the engineering function. Remain hands-on with software engineering, architecture and code reviews. Improve engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines and development practices. Design scalable, secure solutions across the business's technology estate. Build AI-ready data foundations to support future products and automation. Work closely with business stakeholders to rapidly prototype and deliver new capabilities. Support the recruitment and development of future engineering hires. Experience Required Strong commercial software engineering background using technologies such as C#, .NET, Java, Python or TypeScript. Previous experience leading or mentoring software engineers. Commercial experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex or similar. Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, distributed systems and modern engineering practices. Experience delivering cloud-based applications within Azure or AWS. Comfortable working across architecture, development, code reviews and technical leadership. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Desirable Experience building GenAI, LLM or Agentic AI solutions. Experience with RAG, MCP, vector databases or AI orchestration frameworks. Previous experience within fintech, payments, financial services or other regulated environments. Experience helping engineering teams adopt AI at scale.
