Kennedy Fox Associates are proud to be working with a global leader in delivering comprehensive solutions across the entire lifecycle of nuclear facilities. They have over 60 years of experience and support their clients in new builds, modernization, maintenance, decommissioning, and nuclear waste management. They are looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to come in at the concept stage of the proposed Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station.

You will be leading the development and implementation of EHS strategies during the concept phase of a new nuclear power plant project. This pivotal role involves establishing foundational EHS frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship from the project's inception. You would need to be on site in Suffolk where the project is based from Monday - Friday each week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • EHS Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures tailored to the conceptual stage of the nuclear project, aligning with UK regulatory requirements and international best practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and nuclear-specific guidelines.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct preliminary hazard analyses and environmental impact assessments to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project stakeholders, including designers, engineers, and regulatory bodies, to integrate EHS considerations into project planning and decision-making processes.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver EHS training programs to project team members, promoting awareness and adherence to safety and environmental protocols.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Establish systems for tracking EHS performance metrics, incident reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop initial emergency response plans and procedures appropriate for the conceptual phase, ensuring readiness for potential incidents.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years of EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within the nuclear or high-risk infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience in early-stage project development is highly desirable.
  • Chartered Membership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or equivalent professional recognition.
  • In-depth understanding of UK EHS legislation, nuclear industry standards, and environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
