We are seeking a committed and experienced Deputy Manager to support the operational leadership of our residential homes in London. In this role, you will help deliver high‑quality, therapeutic care, ensuring excellent outcomes for our young people and full compliance with Ofsted regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people in a residential or semi‑independent setting, or within youth work. You will have experience managing staff, conducting supervisions, and be passionate about supporting and developing your team.
Core Duties- Leadership and Management
- Support the Registered Manager with day‑to‑day operations
- Lead and develop the team to deliver high‑quality, trauma‑informed care
- Lead in the Manager’s absence
- Promote a positive, safe and nurturing culture
- Drive continuous improvement and maintain strong Ofsted outcomes
- Compliance & Safeguarding
- Ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted frameworks
- Support inspections and audits, implementing improvements promptly
- Oversee risk assessments, care plans and behaviour support plans
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, prioritising young people’s welfare
- Care Support
- Create a therapeutic, nurturing environment
- Ensure person‑centred care that promotes development and independence
- Oversee medication administration and accurate record‑keeping
- Maintain effective communication with families and professionals
- Support education plans aligned with each young person’s goals
- Staffing
- Support recruitment, induction and staff training
- Conduct supervision, appraisals and performance management
- Manage fair and effective rotas
- Lead team meetings and encourage open communication
- Referrals and Occupancy
- Respond to referrals within 48 hours and complete assessments
- Maintain at least 85% occupancy
- Support admissions and transitions for new young people
- Administration
- Oversee young people’s finances with accuracy and transparency
- Ensure timely completion of records and reports
- Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR
- Safety and Emergency Support
- Participate in the on‑call rota and respond to emergencies
- Ensure the home is safe and secure at the end of each shift
- Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – must be willing to work towards Level 5
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a children’s residential care setting
- At least 1 year’s experience in a supervisory or team leader role
- In‑depth understanding of safeguarding, trauma‑informed care and relevant childcare legislation
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, motivation, and team development
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proven ability to develop strong, supportive relationships with children, staff and professionals
- Flexible and resilient with a calm and reflective approach
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England)
- Experience supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
- Experience in contributing to Ofsted inspections
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as PACE, attachment theory or trauma‑informed models
- UK driving licence
