We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join a growing team for a construction company based in Central London (Zone 1). This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering an accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll service. The successful candidate will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with UK payroll legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for monthly and, where applicable, weekly payrolls.
  • Process starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, commissions, and statutory payments.
  • Calculate and process pensions, student loans, attachment of earnings, and other payroll deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, and current UK payroll legislation.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and ensure data integrity.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies promptly.
  • Liaise with HR and Finance teams to ensure payroll data is accurate and up to date.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support payroll audits and prepare payroll-related reports for management.
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes affecting payroll and implement necessary updates.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including P60s, P11Ds (where applicable), and other statutory reporting.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience managing end-to-end payroll within a UK business.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and statutory payments.
  • Experience using payroll software (such as Sage Payroll, ADP, Moorepay, iTrent, or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Desirable

  • CIPP qualification or working towards one.
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple entities or high-volume payrolls.
  • Knowledge of pension auto-enrolment and benefits administration.
  • Experience working closely with HR and Finance teams.
