We are currently working with a Traditional New Build House Builder based in Surrey looking to hire a Buyer to work across multiple projects for them. The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, plant, and subcontractor services to support the delivery of construction projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement of Materials & Plant: Source, negotiate, and purchase construction materials, equipment, and plant hire in line with project requirements. Manage supplier relationships to ensure continuity of supply and best value. Ensure all materials meet project specifications and are delivered to site on schedule.
  • Subcontractor Procurement: Assist in the tendering and appointment of subcontractors. Evaluate quotations, negotiate terms and conditions, and prepare subcontract orders.
  • Cost Management: Monitor procurement budgets and ensure cost-effective purchasing. Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager to control project costs.
  • Supplier & Market Analysis: Identify new suppliers and maintain an approved supplier list. Keep abreast of market trends, material shortages, and pricing fluctuations.
  • Compliance & Administration: Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and relevant legislation. Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation using internal systems.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a procurement or buying role within the construction industry.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of construction materials and suppliers.
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement software.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and Vehicle.
  • Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or Construction (e.g., CIPS, HNC, or degree).
  • Experience with ERP systems such as COINS, Causeway, or similar.
  • Understanding of construction contracts and commercial practices.
