Surrey | Education | New Build | Freelance We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor delivering a major new-build school project in Surrey. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS with main contractor experience who is looking for a long-term freelance position working on a high-quality education development. The Role Working closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider commercial team, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of key subcontractor packages throughout the project lifecycle. Key responsibilities include: * Managing subcontract packages from procurement through to final account * Preparing and analysing tenders * Negotiating and placing subcontracts * Managing subcontractor valuations and payments * Cost reporting and forecasting * Managing variations and commercial changes * Monitoring project costs against budget * Managing subcontractor accounts and final accounts * Identifying and mitigating commercial risks * Working closely with the site, design and project management teams * Supporting monthly commercial reporting and project reviews About You We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with strong main contractor experience, ideally with a background in education, public sector, residential, commercial or other major new-build projects. You should have: * Proven experience working for a main contractor * Strong subcontract procurement and management experience * Experience managing multiple packages through to final account * Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial procedures * Strong experience with valuations, variations and cost reporting * Excellent negotiation and communication skills * Ability to work autonomously while being part of a wider commercial team * Previous experience on projects of £20m+ would be advantageous
