About the role

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Grounds Maintenance Person to join us on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract to cover a long-term sickness absence, with the possibility of extension. You’ll help maintain the attractive, safe and welcoming environment of our Darrick Wood Estate, working alongside our Head Gardener and Caretaker to ensure our communal grounds and outdoor spaces are kept to a high standard for residents. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to make a visible difference to the appearance and wellbeing of a residential community. Whether you already have grounds maintenance experience or transferable skills and a willingness to learn, we would love to hear from you.

What you will be doing

  • Maintaining flower beds, shrubs, hedges, lawns and planted areas.
  • Carrying out grass cutting, weeding, pruning and seasonal grounds maintenance.
  • Keeping communal outdoor areas free from litter, leaves and dumped rubbish.
  • Operating and carrying out basic maintenance checks on gardening equipment.
  • Reporting health and safety concerns, repairs, graffiti and fly-tipping.
  • Assisting with snow and ice clearance during winter months.
  • Working closely with the Head Gardener, Caretaker and Housing Officer to maintain estate standards.
  • Providing occasional cover for caretaking duties during periods of annual leave or sickness.
  • Supporting the delivery of a safe, pleasant and well‑maintained environment for residents.

What we are looking for

We welcome applications from people with relevant experience or transferable skills. You could be a great fit if you have:

  • Experience of grounds maintenance, gardening, horticulture or a similar practical role.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • Good awareness of health and safety practices.
  • Experience using gardening tools and equipment such as mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • The physical ability to undertake outdoor manual work in all seasons.
  • A willingness to undertake training where required.

A DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.

What we offer

  • A supportive and friendly working environment.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to make a visible difference to our residents’ daily lives.
  • A varied outdoor role where no two days are the same.

If you need adjustments at any stage or prefer an alternative format, please contact us.
