Role overview

New HGV drivers for food waste and collections.

Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Operation: Drive and manoeuvre heavy goods vehicles (Class 2 / Category C) along pre-planned local collection round.
  • Crew Supervision: Lead and work alongside a small team of loaders, assisting with manual collection, emptying food waste caddies, or loading at the back of the truck when required.
  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily vehicle walk-around inspections, report mechanical defects, and adhere strictly to road traffic and health & safety regulations.
  • Quality Control: Identify and log contaminated bins or uncollected waste according to council or company procedures.
  • Customer Service: Act as a public-facing representative, handling resident enquiries and delivering a dependable service.

Requirements:

  • Licence: Full UK Category C (Class 2) HGV driving licence.
  • Credentials: Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) card and digital tachograph card.
  • Experience: Prior driving experience with large or refuse collection vehicles in public areas; waste management background is preferred.
  • Attributes: Good time management, physical fitness for an active role involving loading support, and strong local area knowledge.
