Our client is a leading and rapidly expanding renewable energy business based in Belfast, playing a key role in Northern Ireland's transition to sustainable energy. Delivering innovative solutions including solar PV, battery storage, and advanced air-source heat pump systems, they are committed to making energy smarter, cleaner, and more efficient.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Heating Design & Technical Support Engineer to join their expanding renewables team. This is a permanent opportunity for a technically strong individual who combines engineering expertise with a commitment to quality and customer support.
The Role
This position will act as the technical lead within the heat pump division, supporting both system design and post-installation technical assistance across Northern Ireland and ROI. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing bespoke air-source heat pump systems using MCS-compliant design tools
- Sizing emitters, hot water cylinders, and pipework to ensure optimal system performance
- Producing schematics, wiring layouts, and comprehensive design packs for installation teams
- Providing both telephone and on-site technical support to installers
- Liaising with manufacturers regarding commissioning, warranties, and fault resolution
- Managing warranty registrations, service schedules, and compliance documentation
- Supporting the sales team with technical input during project scoping and pre-sales stages
Candidate Requirements
Our client is seeking an individual with strong technical grounding in heating system design and a genuine interest in renewable technologies.
Essential:
- Proven experience in domestic or light commercial heating system design
- Strong working knowledge of air-source heat pumps and low-temperature heating systems
- Clear understanding of MCS standards, Part L, and G3 compliance
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts
- Organised, dependable, and proactive in problem-solving
Desirable:
- MCS or F-Gas certification
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent qualification)
- Experience using industry design software (e.g. Heat Engineer, Vaillant Design Hub, Mitsubishi Ecodan)
- Familiarity with wider renewable technologies such as solar PV, battery storage, and controls integration
