Role overview
A varied, hands-on position combining team supervision, horticulture, health & safety, and contractor coordination — making a real, visible difference to Kendal's public spaces and community assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day grounds and maintenance operations across Kendal's public spaces and council estate.
- Supervise a Grounds & Maintenance Assistant and coordinate contractors.
- Oversee horticulture, allotment sites, civic planting and maintenance projects.
- Manage health & safety, risk assessments, record keeping and budget monitoring.
- Support community events and help keep Kendal looking its best year-round.
- Report directly to the Council Services Manager with real autonomy in the role.
About you
- Experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture (essential).
- Supervisory experience (essential).
- H&S qualification — IOSH, NEBOSH or COSHH (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence (required).
- Organised, resilient and community-minded — someone who takes pride in high-quality public spaces.
