Hybrid working between home and the Kendal Town Council Office LA9 4ED. Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. £15.82 to £17.79 per hour, with pay award pending which will be back‐dated to 1st April, plus local government pension scheme.

We are looking for a proactive and practical Estates and Grounds Officer to help deliver high‐quality services for the estates and grounds maintenance team across Kendal. If you are looking for a rewarding role where you can make a visible difference to Kendal's public spaces and community assets, this is an excellent opportunity to join our small and friendly Kendal Town Council team in a varied and valuable position.

Role Overview: This is a varied, hands‐on role combining team supervision, health and safety oversight, responsibility for horticulture in and around the town and its estate and grounds, asset maintenance and contractor co‐ordination. The role is full time (37.5 hours per week) and is offered on SCP 17–24.

Reporting to the Council Services Manager, you will lead day‐to‐day estates and grounds activity, supervise the Estates and Grounds Assistant, and help ensure the council's assets, allotment sites and public spaces are safe, well maintained and presented to a high standard. You will also support planning, scheduling, risk management, record keeping and budget monitoring, while contributing to civic planting, maintenance projects and event support where needed.

About You: You will be an organised, resilient and community‐minded professional with experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture ideally (LANTRA LEVEL 3) with supervisory experience. You will be comfortable balancing practical outdoor work with planning, and will be required to drive for this role, so a full driving licence is required.

Administration and health and safety responsibilities are a key part of this role, so a formal qualification and experience in H and S such as IOSH, NEBOSH or COSHH will be advantageous, and you will take pride in maintaining public spaces to a high standard.

Please note that a satisfactory basic level DBS check will be undertaken for the successful candidate.
