The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a dedicated Senior Housing Benefits Officer to join their Finance team. This role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to support and guide Housing Benefit operations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for undertaking full assessments to entitlement/contribution for the more complex cases including the carrying out of home visits where necessary.
  • This requires the post holder to evaluate and be responsible for any review to the entitlement/contribution for the more complex cases as highlighted below:
    • Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit including more complex calculations in respect of self-employed, students etc.
    • Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit the Claims relating to Registered Social Landlords, Housing Tenants and Council Tax Benefit.
    • Fairer Charging/ Supporting People, Respite Care and Residential Care.
    • Other assessments such as concessionary fares using relevant Regulations.

About You

  • Experienced at senior level - a seasoned Senior Housing Benefit Assessor with recent, hands-on operational experience.
  • Quality Assurance focused - substantial recent experience conducting QA checks and ensuring assessment accuracy.
  • Workload management skilled - able to allocate and manage workloads across HB teams.
  • Complaint handling experienced - capable of managing and resolving Housing Benefit-related complaints.
  • Assessment support capable - confident supporting HB Officers with complex assessments and decision making.
  • Knowledgeable in specialist areas - strong understanding of Temporary Accommodation, Supported Accommodation, and HB/CTS appeals.
