We are looking for an experienced Workshop Chargehand / Technician to join our team, maintaining and repairing vehicles for our local authority client at the Wellington depot. This hands‑on role involves carrying out inspections, servicing, and repairs to DVSA standards, diagnosing faults, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality. You’ll also liaise with on‑site customers, manage running defects, and keep accurate records to ensure compliance.
Duties of the Workshop Chargehand / Technician:
- Inspect, service, and repair vehicles in line with VOSA and company standards.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
- Manage daily workshop operations and minimise vehicle downtime (VOR).
- Complete service and maintenance paperwork to DVSA standards.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and the workshop controller to keep operations running smoothly.
- Ensure safe working practices and compliance at all times.
Experience/skills required for the Workshop Chargehand / Technician:
- Apprentice‑served HGV Technician qualification.
- Experience with municipal vehicle maintenance.
- HGV Class 2 licence (minimum).
- Strong diagnostic, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Good IT literacy and high awareness of health & safety.
- Desirable: leadership/managerial experience, DVSA inspection course, electrical/hydraulic knowledge.
