Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm and Saturday 7am-12pm

Salary: £45,240 per year

About the Role

My client is a well-established and growing HGV Engineering business with over 40 years industry experience. They are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Fitter/Technician to join their busy Dumfries depot. This is a days-based role with no engine work required, ideal for a fitter with strong mechanical and fabrication skills who enjoys hands-on workshop work.

Key Responsibilities for the HGV Fitter/Technician

  • Maintenance and repair of HGV, Tippers, Trailers, Mounted Cranes and ancillary equipment
  • Working on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Carrying out welding and fabrication repairs (MIG / arc)
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults (non-engine related)
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment
  • Complying with health & safety procedures at all times
  • Ensure all health and safety obligations are met, and company policies are adhered to
  • Report any safety concerns, hazard observations, accidents and incidents by the end of that shift to allow full investigation and prevent re-occurrence
  • Ensure activities and associated actions and measures taken do not endanger but assist with the upkeep and maintaining the company's ISO (9001, 14001 and 45001) standards and certification
  • To have a good understanding of vehicle mechanical interfaces and repairs of vehicle components
  • To be able to install / repair hydraulic systems
  • To overhaul raft components
  • To be able to understand schematic drawings

What we are Looking For in a HGV Fitter/Technician

  • Previous experience as an HGV Fitter, Trailer Fitter, or Plant Fitter
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to work
  • Relevant mechanical or fabrication qualifications (desirable but not essential)
