Just Access Hire, part of the Kelling Group, is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead and develop our transport operation from our headquarters in Normanton. This role can be tailored around the right person. We’re open to speaking with experienced Transport Managers looking for their next challenge, as well as more senior candidates who have managed transport functions across multiple sites and are ready to oversee transport operations across the wider Kelling Group.
For candidates joining at Group Transport Manager level, the role will involve supporting transport operations across both our Access Hire and Welfare Hire businesses, driving consistency, compliance and operational excellence throughout the group. While the role is predominantly based in Normanton, regular travel to our sites in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Bristol, Huntingdon and Scotland will be required. Occasional overnight stays may also be necessary.
You’ll be responsible for the safe, efficient and cost-effective running of our transport operation, ensuring exceptional service delivery to customers across the UK. Working closely with Operations, Hire Desk, Workshop and Engineering teams, you’ll lead the logistics function, manage transport compliance and continuously look for ways to improve performance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop the logistics and transport team.
- Manage the day-to-day planning of deliveries, collections and equipment exchanges across the UK.
- Supervise employed, casual and agency drivers.
- Conduct regular driver briefings, debriefings and one-to-one meetings.
- Ensure compliance with driver hours regulations and tachograph legislation.
- Monitor and manage driver performance, utilisation and productivity.
- Produce daily, weekly and monthly operational reports.
- Analyse transport data including travel times, fuel usage and driver activity to identify improvement opportunities.
- Manage vehicle hire bookings and off-hires, ensuring commercially effective solutions.
- Coordinate overnight accommodation and travel arrangements where required.
- Manage toll road, ULEZ and congestion charge reporting and payments.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and training within the transport function.
- Work closely with internal departments to ensure excellent customer service and operational efficiency.
- Support and promote company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Liaise with the EHS Manager regarding depot audits, training, accident investigations, equipment maintenance and inductions.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and organisation within the transport office.
- Provide cover and support for operational leadership when required.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the transport operation.

- Oversee transport operations across multiple Kelling Group businesses and locations.
- Travel regularly to group sites to support operational consistency and best practice.
- Develop and implement transport strategies to improve efficiency, compliance and service delivery.
- Lead transport-related projects and business improvement initiatives.
- Support fleet optimisation, cost reduction and operational performance programmes.
- Implement and develop transport management systems, telematics and vehicle tracking solutions.
- Support organisational growth and transport function development across the group.
What We’re Looking For
- We’re looking for a proactive and commercially minded transport professional who enjoys leading teams, solving problems and delivering results.
- Previous experience in a Transport Manager, Logistics Manager or similar leadership role.
- Strong understanding of transport compliance, driver hours regulations and tachograph management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership and people management experience.
- Excellent planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience managing transport operations across multiple sites.
- Experience implementing telematics, tracking or Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Experience leading operational change or departmental restructuring projects.
- Experience within plant hire, access hire, welfare hire, construction or related industries.
