Job Overview

The Business Development Manager will play a key role in driving the growth of Kelling Fleet Solutions through the acquisition of new customers and the development of strategic commercial relationships across the UK.

This is a highly commercial, customer-facing role focused on identifying new opportunities, securing long‑term fleet leasing contracts and expanding our market presence within key industry sectors and verticals.

The successful candidate will be a proactive new business hunter with a proven ability to generate opportunities, develop relationships at all levels and convert prospects into long‑term customers.

Working closely with manufacturers, vehicle converters and internal stakeholders, the Business Development Manager will deliver sustainable revenue growth through value‑led consultative selling.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Revenue Growth
  • Deliver agreed new business growth targets and maximise sales revenue through the acquisition of new commercial fleet leasing customers.
  • Identify, qualify and secure new business opportunities in core target sectors.
  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, referrals and outbound business development activity.
  • Develop long‑term strategic relationships with customers from operational level through to senior decision‑makers and board level.
  • Win high‑value fleet leasing agreements and framework contracts with national and strategic accounts.
  • Manage the full sales lifecycle from initial enquiry through quotation, negotiation and contract completion.
  • Strategic Sales & Market Development
  • Develop and execute business development plans aligned with Kelling Fleet Solutions’ growth objectives.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, industry trends and customer requirements to support sustainable business growth.
  • Build relationships with vehicle manufacturers, converters and commercial partners to leverage commercial opportunities.
  • Promote Kelling Fleet Solutions’ specialist leasing and fleet support capabilities across targeted industry sectors.
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, networking events, exhibitions and industry forums.
  • Customer Solutions
  • Understand customer fleet requirements and recommend tailored commercial vehicle leasing and funding solutions.
  • Prepare competitive quotations, funding proposals and commercial presentations.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and successfully convert opportunities into long‑term partnerships.
  • Deliver an outstanding customer experience throughout the sales process.
  • Work collaboratively with internal operational teams to ensure smooth vehicle delivery and ongoing account management.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market trends and pricing strategies.
  • Support bid management and tender submissions where appropriate.
  • Contribute ideas for service improvements, product innovation and commercial strategy.
  • Governance & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, customer information and sales activity.
  • Produce regular pipeline, forecast and performance reports.
  • Monitor conversion rates, sales performance and business development KPIs.
  • Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies and commercial governance.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of success in business development, B2B sales and account acquisition.
  • Strong new business generation skills with a hunter mentality.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing the full sales cycle from prospecting to contract award.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple opportunities.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience within commercial vehicle leasing, contract hire, fleet management or finance.
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle funding products.
  • Experience working with infrastructure, construction, healthcare, logistics or public sector customers.
  • Existing network of fleet decision‑makers or commercial vehicle contacts.
