Location: We currently have a vacancy for a Recycler Technician to join our Customer Field Services department within the Waste Service Delivery Business Unit area in the Sheffield area. Successful applicants need to be within a 30‑minute commute from our Blackburn Meadows wastewater treatment works.

Work type: This is a permanent opportunity, working 37 hours per week, with rotational work patterns to cover 24/7. You will be required to travel to different operational sites across the region; therefore, a full valid driving licence (no more than 6 points), an LGV licence Category C and ideally a driver DCPC is required.

As a Recycler Technician, you will work alongside the Recycler Assistant for support, but you will also work closely with other Yorkshire Water teams on site to undertake planned, reactive cleaning and pollution prevention works in a way that minimises impact and maximises benefits. You will operate a Jet‑Vac in a safe and optimal way, maintain wastewater and Energy & Recycling assets, tanks and wet wells. You will ensure Health and Safety working practices and procedures of the Jet‑Vac operation are always complied with to ensure compliance with the Yorkshire Water Safety Policy. You will work as part of a team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how your individual performance links into achieving the team's wider objectives and optimising the outputs of the vehicle. You will ensure all training requirements are met and kept up to date to operate the vehicle safely and carry out the task at hand, ensuring compliance with driving regulations and the high working standards laid down at Yorkshire Water, including Working at Heights, Safe Entry into Confined Spaces, and High‑Pressure Water Jetting. You will need to maintain high standards for the sites you work on and the vehicles you operate, ensuring they are always fit for purpose. You will maintain the vehicle and equipment to ensure its reliability and efficiency, reporting all defects for repair as soon as possible. You will have a flexible attitude to your work as you will be working a variety of rotas in the role to cover our working window. Once fully trained you may be asked to participate in an out‑of‑hour standby rota, so flexibility is an essential requirement of this role. As part of this role you will work within confined spaces, and any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria, including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure full safety when working in hazardous environments.

Driver requirements for C1 or above: An Initial Basic Standard Eyesight Assessment. An initial Driving Assessment using the category of vehicle the role requires, and further assessments as and when required. A regular Basic Standard Eyesight Assessment.

What skills, experience and training you will need: A full valid driving licence and a Heavy Goods Vehicle licence C, plus Digi card and DCPC. Experience driving vehicles with a liquid load. A strong Health & Safety background. It is essential that you have a strong work ethic, a practical mindset, enjoy working outdoors, and be comfortable taking a hands‑on approach to work tasks. Ability to find faults and diagnose the root cause of an issue. Competent in the use of IT systems. Problem‑solving skills are essential; you should be proactive, take ownership of issues, think through problems, and work with others to solve them. Good interpersonal skills to liaise with operational teams to complete the required work. Effective communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships. Ideally you will have Jet‑Vac vehicle operation experience. Ideally you will have High‑Pressure Water Jetting experience. Ideally you will have a basic understanding of the Sewage Treatment Process. Ideally you will have previous experience gained within wastewater.
