We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Leakage Inspector to join the Demand Reduction team at Yorkshire Water and be part of delivering high‑quality service to customers.

Location: Must live within a commutable distance of West Yorkshire due to travel times.

Working Hours: 37 hours per week. Minimum of 3 nights per 4‑week period.

Role: The Senior Leakage Inspector provides advanced technical leakage support to the Area Leakage Team, managing and resolving complex leakage issues using specialist techniques such as step testing, PZTs, integrity testing and meter accuracy validation. The role includes mentoring and training team members, supporting operational needs, leading PEX and performance hubs, acting as a key point of contact in absence of the Area Team Leader, and supporting health and safety activities, including site visits and vehicle audits.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced leakage investigation support to the Area Leakage Team, including self‑generating workload by identifying problem DMAs via corporate systems.
  • Specialise in complex leakage activities such as DMA optimisation, step testing, zone integrity testing, pressure logging, correlating logger deployment and leak detection in problem DMAs.
  • Lead meter exchange and maintenance activities across DMA, commercial and domestic meters, including logger and pulse unit installation and upkeep.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with service partners and stakeholders to drive efficient leakage reduction and minimise leak life.
  • Deputise for the Area Team Leader, assist with performance activities, procurement of tools, equipment, PPE, clothes and lead where appropriate.
  • Take ownership of customer‑related issues and complaints, liaising with key contacts and service partners to resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including POWRA processes, personal safety device usage, vehicle inspections, H&S site visits, vehicle audits and approval of WAND risk assessments.
  • Mentor, train and upskill colleagues, promoting cross‑team working with Field teams.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Passionate about delivering excellent customer service and meeting challenging performance targets safely and efficiently.
  • Advanced knowledge of the water network, leakage techniques, and technologies; capable of using and fault‑diagnosing leakage equipment.
  • Initiative to identify, resolve and overcome operational issues; demonstrates Yorkshire Water values and behaviours.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience engaging with stakeholders.
  • Competent IT user with experience in Netbase, SAP, Advantex and Microsoft Office; willing to learn new systems.
  • Relevant industry experience and qualifications: previous leakage or networks experience, NRASWA and Water Hygiene certifications, completion of WAND risk assessments, a full clean driving licence, and flexibility to work unsociable hours.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Leakage, with NRASWA Supervisor qualification, and strong understanding of repair techniques and pressure management.
  • Strong IT capability with working knowledge of leakage systems including Netbase.
  • Technical understanding of water hydraulics and awareness of advancing technologies and innovations.
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements including the Water Act and Competition Act.
