What we do:

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.

Where you fit in:

You will be responsible for creating high-quality, engaging and outcome-focused learning content that improves business performance, strengthens colleague knowledge and delivers a great learning experience.

Led by the Learning Design Manager, you will work closely with the Learning Engagement and Delivery Manager. You will take clear learning briefs and develop content, resources, pathways and digital learning assets, using the most appropriate design methods and tools. You will play an important role in ensuring learning is solution-focused, on brand, practical for colleagues and aligned to Yorkshire Water's values, behaviours and strategic priorities.

This is a key role in progressing Yorkshire Water's journey towards becoming a learning organisation, helping to create learning that is available at the point of need, supports continuous improvement and enables colleagues to learn, apply and improve.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Previous experience of designing or developing learning content, resources or training materials.
  • Understanding of learning design principles, adult learning, learner experience and how people apply learning in the workplace.
  • Confidence using digital learning tools, authoring platforms, Microsoft 365 applications or other technologies to create engaging learning content.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, practical and accessible learning materials.
  • Strong written communication, content creation and storytelling skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to apply brand, accessibility, quality and governance standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with SMEs, learning colleagues and stakeholders to develop effective learning solutions.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, technologies and approaches to learning design.

It would be beneficial if you had the following -

  • Previous experience of using e-learning authoring tools, video editing, animation, screen recording, AI-enabled learning tools or learning experience platforms.
  • Experience of designing digital learning, microlearning, blended learning, performance support tools or just-in-time learning resources.
  • Experience of working in a regulated, operational, utilities or safety-critical environment.
  • Experience of working with learning management systems, content libraries or learning pathways.
  • Relevant learning, instructional design, digital learning, CIPD or content design qualification.

Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it's important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life. We know that juggling childcare responsibilities or getting that ideal work/life balance isn't always easy!
