Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we're moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in Summer 2026, so you'll be based there in the future, with a hybrid working arrangement in place, a mix of office and home working. We work 3 days in the office per week.
Work type: This is a temporary fixed term opportunity for 12 months, with the potential for it to become a permanent role. Working full time 37 hours per week between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm Monday‑Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Above Ground Triage Engineer to join the Triage, Planning and Scheduling team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of help to provide the best service to our customers.

The Triage, Planning and Scheduling team is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. This is a key role in supporting our Above Ground Maintenance Modernisation, moving towards a more efficient, holistic and proactive approach to maintenance. You will also be passionate about improving Yorkshire Water and how we care for our assets, identifying and owning opportunities to learn and improve process, system and colleague capability.
Where you fit in: As our Above Ground Triage Engineer, you will be:
- Monitoring and managing work requiring triage, primarily via the new SAP S4 system, and processing based on priority.
- Validating, prioritising and routing MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) work effectively to reduce bad demand.
- Ensuring that the information provided meets safety & quality requirements and is accurately prioritised before routing to the next step in the process.
- This will involve liaison with colleagues across the business including operations, logistics, procurement, MEICA delivery, technical planning, scheduling, and control.
- Based on the information provided, you'll identify whether the work required is routine, building a clear plan of work.
- Develop your own understanding of the waste and clean operations of Above Ground assets through on the job learning and utilising technical expertise, to make appropriate course of action decisions, and challenging and influencing stakeholders.
- Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work which includes adherence to all company Management Procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the Yorkshire Water Safety Policy by developing and maintaining a personal safety profile corresponding to current company expectations.
- Make decisions on appropriate prioritisation of work across the proactive maintenance and reactive workbasket, considering the implications of these decisions on Operational risk, potentially calling forward planned maintenance when notified of a reactive fault or risk.
- Review maintenance jobs against risk and capacity, making decisions about the most effective use of resource and the impact of not completing work, driving value for the whole asset maintenance lifecycle.
- Ensure detailed resource plan to enable efficient scheduling effort.
- Analyse job detail to define the most efficient cost-effective solution.
- Apply jeopardy management to the maintenance workbasket, identifying where jobs require intervention, and representing the triage team in company escalations.
- Upskilling colleagues through diagnostic questioning and coaching.
What skills & qualifications you will need: The successful candidate will have a strong desire to improve how we do things at Yorkshire Water, particularly in relation to how we care for our assets. An excellent understanding of Operational Health & Safety, once in role you will need to understand Yorkshire Water Life Saving Rules and Management Procedures. An excellent understanding of clean and waste operations and operational risk. A good understanding of asset faults, diagnostic questioning, and potential means of repair / restoration. Knowledgeable in regards engineering work within wastewater and clean water environments and how it interacts with engineering maintenance/ projects. A hard-working, team player, displaying role model behaviours, ensuring regular self-development to broaden current and changing internal and regulatory changes ensuring all work that is undertaken meets current rules and regulations. Strong analytical, problem-solving skills. Experience of using SAP to interrogate and process jobs. Excellent customer service skills and previous experience of working in a customer facing role and can influence, negotiate, and challenge in the right way, when required. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work under pressure and has previous experience of working in a fast-paced environment, managing day to day reactive workloads. Highly organised individual, with good attention to detail. Previous experience of working in Operational teams in Yorkshire Water, or in the wider Utilities Sector.
You will also benefit from having either NVQ Levels 1-3, City & Guilds Levels 1-3, BTech National Diploma, ONC/HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject.
