Location: Buttershaw / Hybrid Working (2 days office a week - Bradford). This role will initially be based in Bradford but we're moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you'll be based there in the future.

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Information Governance Assistant to join the Data Protection team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Data Protection are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. This role is to support the Data Protection Officer in ensuring that information within the Kelda Group is protected, in accordance with the relevant legislative requirements, the needs of the business and to ensure that the policies and risk & compliance activities across the organisation reflect and enhance this.

To be a point of contact for Subject access/EIR/Open Data queries and translate relevant policy into effective deliverable actions for staff members dealing with requests for information or data privacy issues.

Where you fit in: As our Information Governance Assistant you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation and monitoring of EIR and DPA requests to ensure compliance, applying appropriate exemptions where required.
  • Develop and maintain DPA, EIR, and Open Data policies and procedures in collaboration with Legal and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise with Legal and the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to provide advice on DPA, EIR, and Open Data requests.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Work with user departments to create and implement procedures and systems for protecting personal and business-sensitive information.
  • Provide support and guidance on data privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) under the guidance of the DPO.
  • Ensure staff complete mandatory information security training and produce regular compliance reports.
  • Support the DPO and management in responding to information security incidents and participate in information governance projects.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Educated to degree level or possessing equivalent relevant experience.
  • Broad understanding of the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • Understanding of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004.
  • Broad knowledge of Information Security best practices.
  • Practical experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Practical experience in data protection, including leading change, writing, and embedding policy and compliance standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly effective and creative problem-solving skills, along with excellent analytical abilities.

You will also benefit from having:

  • ISEB qualification in Data Privacy or Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection, and Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP) or equivalent.
  • Experience dealing with subject access and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests.
  • Practical experience in carrying out compliance activities such as reviews and audits.
  • Broad understanding of current information security technologies, vulnerabilities, exploits, exposures, and malicious behaviours.
