We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join the Engineering Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Purpose of the role: Yorkshire Water is on a mission to transform how we deliver sustainable water and wastewater services. As part of our ambitious AMP8 investment programme, we’re embedding nature-based solutions (NbS) and blue-green infrastructure (BGI) at the heart of our engineering strategy. We’re looking for a visionary, technically exceptional and delivery-focused Senior Engineer to lead the end-to-end design and implementation of NbS and BGI across our capital and operational programmes. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges using natural systems and wants to shape the future of sustainable infrastructure in the water sector.
What you’ll be doing:
- Spearheading the transformation of our approach to sustainable infrastructure, moving from traditional approaches towards nature-first solutions.
- Technical leadership of the full technical lifecycle of nature-based and blue-green infrastructure projects from early feasibility and optioneering through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and post-implementation review.
- Act as Yorkshire Water's technical authority on SuDS, wetlands, natural flood management, and other NbS interventions ensuring robust, compliant, and innovative design solutions.
- Drive, develop and maintain technical standards, specifications, and design guidance aligned with national best.
- Provide expert input into process engineering, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, catchment assessments, and the integration of ecological and landscape design principles.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Asset Planning, Capital Delivery, Catchment Management, Innovation) to embed NbS into our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMPs), storm overflow reduction programme, and wider environmental improvement initiatives.
- Support regulatory compliance and performance outcomes, including Biodiversity Net Gain, carbon reduction, and water quality improvements.
- Represent Yorkshire Water in technical forums, industry working groups etc influencing policy and sharing best practice.
- Mentor and develop internal engineering and design teams, building capability in sustainable infrastructure delivery.
What we’re looking for:
- A degree-level qualification in a relevant field.
- Chartered status or working towards it (ICE, CIWEM, or similar).
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in the technical design and delivery of nature-based or sustainable infrastructure, ideally within the UK water or environmental sector.
- Proven expertise in hydraulic and hydrological design, including use of modelling tools.
- Strong understanding of UK environmental regulations, planning policy, and sustainability frameworks (e.g. Environment Act, BNG, WFD, DWMPs).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage technical delivery across complex infrastructure programmes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills able to influence internal and external partners, including regulators, consultants, and community stakeholders.
