Hello there and thank you for stopping by. We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Contract Specialist to join the Energy Team and make a positive impact right across the Yorkshire Water business.

We offer a salary from £47,110 - £58,888 per annum, depending on experience. Annual performance related bonus. Attractive pension scheme (up to 12% company contribution). Location: Leeds /Yorkshire - Hybrid Working (a mix of office and home working). Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday between the working window of 8:00am-6:00pm.

Where you fit in: The Energy Team sits within the wider commercial team and manages some of the largest areas of operating expenditure across the business. The Energy Contracts Specialist will be responsible for vendor management of a number of high profile third party contracts including our electricity and gas supply agreements (worth £120m annually) and metering contract. The role will be an integral part of our energy strategy delivery and will be involved in the management of an increasing number of renewable contracts on multiple sites. This position will be an excellent career development opportunity as this pivotal role will interface with a number of internal business areas and will interact with key external stakeholders in the energy industry including energy suppliers, TPIs, renewables companies, DNOs, and regulatory bodies including Ofgem and Ofwat. Utilising an understanding of energy industry regulation and practice, the Energy Contract Specialist will be an experienced vendor manager supporting a wide range of business objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the Energy Team’s core contracts including electricity and gas supply, power purchase agreements, metering services, DNO agreements, energy broker services, renewable private wire contracts.
  • Review and report on vendor performance against contracted SLAs, initiating processes to reduce non-compliance and improve performance.
  • Support the team with billing, validation, payment and metering processes.
  • Responsible for recovering renewable incentive income of £4.5m per year.
  • Manage Supplier tenders in conjunction with incumbent TPIs and in accordance with procurement regulations.
  • Evaluate contract pricing mechanisms relating to flexible electricity supply tariffs to develop revenue streams.
  • Support development of grid flexibility services and capacity management revenues.
  • Produce business cases to support development of new contract services.
  • Contract administration including purchase order management and keeping Energy Management System contract information up to date.
  • Maintain Ofgem accreditation of our existing generation assets, comply with audit requests and regular data submissions.
  • Contribute to strategic forecasting and business planning activity.

What skills and qualifications you will need:

  • Previous experience within the energy and utilities industry and working with energy suppliers.
  • Significant experience of flexible electricity contract mechanisms.
  • Experience of meter management activities, industry standards, flows and MOP contracts.
  • Commercial contract management, tendering and contract administration experience.
  • Previous experience of working with Energy Brokers (TPIs) would be an advantage.
  • Excellent IT, data management and reporting skills, proficient user of all MS Office Applications.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage and organise heavy workloads, prioritising relevant business needs.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to understand and liaise with others, this could be colleagues, managers and external contractors.
  • Able to be resilient under pressure and be self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development, demonstrating a strong customer service ethos.
  • The role will involve occasional travel to different sites across Yorkshire, therefore you will need a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
