The role of this horticulture apprentice will be working with a head gardener within the maintain the bowls green, golf courses and surrounding areas.
They will be expected to complete all study work assigned to them via the web portal on time and attend courses when directed.
The roles will include
- Maintain the Bowls green, trees etc to the required standard ensuring even wear and tear through effective green keeping practices.
- Mowing banks, rough and semi rough areas, surrounds and approaches,
- Scarifying/verticutting turf and aerating turf.
- Applying nutrition and top dressing.
- Irrigating turf
- Identifying and controlling weeds/Identifying and controlling pests
- Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders
- Preparing ground to establish turf
- Establishing turf and ground under repair
- Maintaining golf course and furniture
- Rolling turf
- Undertaking routine machine maintenance
- Preparing machinery for use & storage
- Marking out cricket & Tag rugby

Training
- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Sports Turf Apprenticeship
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
